Game Takes: Flames 4 Canucks 1

In a game that literally meant nothing, we saw a relatively spirited effort from two teams that will have a lot of navel gazing to do in the off season.

The Vancouver Canucks got off to a solid start with a goal just a minute in, but from there it was all Calgary with four straight goals in a 4-1 win on Thursday night.

The two teams have three more games against each other to wind out the season; Vancouver with an extra game against Edmonton to boot, before they can call an end to their nightmarish seasons.

Darryl Sutter has hinted at AHL help to wind down the schedule, but not tonight as only Oliver Kylington and Glen Gawdin got a second look.

Would imagine we’ll see more farmhands in the next three games.

Game Takes: Flames 6 Senators 1

Have to admit it’s kind of fun that this season is still a thing!

The Flames are still alive with four games and three off days on their schedule. Tonight’s 6-1 win over the Ottawa Senators coming on the heels of last night’s regulation loss by the Montreal Canadiens in Toronto means the season ticks on to May 10th and we’ll take it from there.

Tonight the Flames jumped all over a tired Ottawa team scoring only once in the first, but taking the game away with three second period goals, only to add another two in the third.

Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau led the way with three point nights as the Flames live to fight another day … or … live to watch the out of town scoreboard another day.

Game Takes: Jets 4 Flames 0

Wasn’t that pretty much the Flames season once again?

Have the play territorially, but don’t muster anything by way of scoring chances, turn the puck over at importune moments and lose the game convincingly.

The season has been over for a long long time. The Flames have been walking the “plank” for what feels like six weeks. Tonight with a loss to one of the teams they are chasing it really really felt like the end though.

The Habs can still be caught, but it’s going to take every out come going the Flames way in regulation time.

That’s highly unlikely.

Lets see the kids!

Game Takes: Oilers 4 Flames 1

Another gutsy performance by the Flames, this one though ending in a 4-1 loss as the Edmonton Oilers score two short handed goals to bookend Calgary’s only snipe as they popped two early ones in the first.

The Flames came to play, at least they did once they settled in, so no point in questioning effort or attitude, something we’ve seen of late.

Good news I guess is that the team seems pretty dialed in again as Darryl Sutter seems to have made his mark. Bad news of course is the predicament they find themselves in with the Habs erasing a 2-0 third period Senator lead to win in overtime.

It’s not over until it’s over, but lets face it … it’s over.

Game Takes: Flames 3 Oilers 1

Well would you look at that.

Vancouver loses three of four from Ottawa and then to Toronto tonight. Montreal loses to Toronto last night, and the Flames win in Edmonton by a 3-1 score tonight to keep their hopes alive.

Just like that it’s four points and a little more interesting.

The Flames will likely end up short when the dust settles, but why not make it interesting? Why not get the season down a four game show down with the Vancouver Canucks with the Habs up say 5 or 6 points? That’s just fun isn’t it?

So the beat goes on, and lets see.

But the longer this goes on the better as far as I’m concerned.
