Game Takes: Flames 6 Knights 0

Quite the run.

The measuring stick reference is brought out a lot. When the Flames traveled to the East to take on the top of the Atlantic Division they had a misstep and los all three games. Sure there were excuses .. the Flames were coming off their covid break and just didn’t look like the same team. But a test is a test, and when they came home from that trip questions were asked.

Tonight the Flames, fresh out of the all star break were taking on the Vegas Golden Knights, the top team in their division and a club their head coach compared to the LA King cup teams he coached a decade ago.

No matter.

The Flames were up for the task … clearly, running up a 3-0 first period en route to a 6-0 win and Jacob Markstrom’s 8th shut out of the season.

No rest though, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in tomorrow night.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Coyotes 2

Nothing worse than a long break after a heart breaking loss or a stretch of games that had the team on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

So finding a way to beat the Canucks in a snoozer, coming back with an electric finish in Dallas, and then just taking care of business against the woeful Coyotes on Wednesday night is just what the team and the fan base needed; a three game win streak heading into the break.

The 4-2 victory wasn’t a classic; the Flames made it too close in the third by giving up high danger chances with a narrow 3-2 lead, but when the dust settled Blake Coleman had two goals, Chris Tanev four points and the Flames a 4-2 victory.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Stars 3

Now that was fun.

A coast to coast but kicking can be a lot of fun to watch, and we’ve seen that lately with big wins over the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets; it feels like every second shot is a scoring chance and you can’t wait to see who scores next.

But there is nothing sweeter than the win that comes after the mental certainty of a loss, where you’ve already moved on to the next game in your mind, and worrying about blowing back to backs.

The Flames trailed 3-1 with just over five minutes in the third period when they went off scoring three goals in about three and a half minutes to erase a sure defeat and replace it with a 4-3 regulation win.

Some focus and systems in Arizona tomorrow night could mean five wins in six games to head into the all star break; that didn’t look lightly an hour ago.

Game Takes: Flames 1 Canucks 0 (OT)

Man that was a frustrating game to watch.

The Flames were the better team, that was beyond doubt, but they just couldn’t seem to find the range when it came to converting zone time and dominance into actual scoring chances and execution.

In the end the Flames win the game in overtime by a 1-0 score, but throughout the game the shot and chance discrepancy would have been a lot more spacious if the Flames were firing on all cyllinders.

Bottom line it’s a win, even if they surrender a point to the Canucks as well.

That’s four wins in six games, and back to that .600 win percentage level.

Game Takes: Blues 5 Flames 1

Well that pretty much played out to script didn’t it?

Team with three games in four nights and a back to back playing another team that was dismantled by the first team in a reverse situation on Monday night gets up for the game and delivers the expected pay back beat down.

100%.

The Flames hung in for the first half of the game, trailing 2-1 and getting chances of their own, but a late second period goal and two more in the third turned this one into a laugher, as the Flames fell 5-1 to the St. Louis Blues.

The Flames snap a two game win streak, and return to Calgary for just a single game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night … Hockey Day in Canada.
