Game Takes: Flames 5 Kraken 3

The Flames were lucky to be in the game through 40 minutes.

They spent way too much time in their own zone, couldn’t complete a pass, and were literally hanging on. If they had an opponent other than an expansion team, post deadline, with limited offensive skill they would have been run out of their own bard.

The third period comes along, however, and the Flames score four straight goals to win the game 5-3 and pretty much lock down the division with the Oilers losing in Minnesota.

Johnny Gaudreau, for his part, got the two game monkey off his back with his 100th point on the season, and Matthew Tkachuk had a hat trick in the contest.

Next up Vegas on Thursday night.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Kraken 1

Good teams find way to win games when they don’t roll out their best work, and/or don’t have their best players show up.

The Flames have earned a lot of standings points on the backs of their top line this season, but tonight with the trio having an off night the Flames rolled over the Seattle Kraken by a 4-1 score with their depth and Jacob Markstrom carrying them to victory.

Noah Hanifin had four assists, Dillon Dube two helpers, and goals from Tyler Toffoli, Trevor Lewis and Blake Coleman. Michael Stone added another goal on the trip as well.

The win puts the icing on a 4-0-0 trip that had the Flames sweep California for the first time in team history. They return home to play the Kraken again on Tuesday night.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Sharks 2

As hockey fans you have to try and remember seasons like this.

Seasons where you win 60+% of your games. Seasons where you have players doing things that you didn’t think was possible in the modern era. Seasons where you tune in to see the Flames win all three games in California in just four nights.

But that’s exactly what we saw last night as the road weary and depleted Calgary Flames put in the work with Dan Vladar in net, and skated away with a 4-2 victory.

The win moves the road trip to 3-0-0 with the last stop Saturday in Seattle. Things were getting a little tighter in the Pacific with the club’s three game winless streak before the trip, but with three straight wins they’ve kept pace with the streaking Oilers and still have a comfortable lead.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Ducks 2

For what seemed like 20 years the Flames couldn’t win in Anaheim. Like ever. And I lived it one night, sitting in the crowd and hearing “you can’t win here” all around you.

They won a playoff game in 2015, but that didn’t break the curse as it didn’t cut the streak of regular season futility.

Luckily that was put to bed a few seasons, ago and tonight the Flames rolled into Anaheim and took care of business for the second time in two games on this Pacific warmer weather road trip beating the Ducks 4-2 on the strength of Johnny Gaudreau’s two point night, and Michael Stone’s game winner in his 500th career game.

No rest for the weary, as the Flames take to the ice tomorrow night against the San Jose Sharks.

Game Takes: Flames 3 Kings 2

Johnny Gaudreau has had a special year. He’s set to surpass all his career best marks in the next week, including career highs for goals, assists and points.

But that only tells a part of the story.

Tonight the little guy was fierce in taking what has to be his first “violent” penalty of his career, rubbing out Kings, muscling players off for time and space, and well scoring as he racked up a goal and two assists in a huge slump busting win for the Flames on Monday night.

The win snaps a three game losing streak (they got a single point), and gives them some breathing room in the Pacific.

Next up the Ducks on Wednesday night.
