Game Takes: Devils 3 Flames 2

Another game, another loss.

The system seems to be back in line though, as the Flames for the second straight night seemed to carry the majority of the play and likely deserved better, but like we’ve seen in most now 5 of the 6 games in the skid, they took the lead but failed to hold it.

Calgary ties it up in the third on a Tyler Toffoli powerplay goal, but then gives up the winner to Devil captain Nico Hischier and just like that the Flames are 0-1-1 on this three game road trip.

Next up the trip closer in Boston on Thursday night.

Game Takes: Islanders 4 Flames 3 (OT)

Back to back games losing in overtime due to questionable overtime penalty calls?

Yikes … that’s a stretch.

Speaking of a stretch, that’s five straight losses for the Flames, with the last two in overtime as the team finds a way to lose a game they completely dominated through 40 minutes.

The glass half full gang will point to a two goal game by the top line, and a return to dominating opponents, but in the end that’s a great chance to end a negative streak thwarted by a questionable third period.

The controversy comes form a missed call in the last minute of the third period when Jacob Markstrom was taken down, followed by a penalty call against Rasmus Andersson in the extra frame.

Hopefully the overall game means the Flames have found their structure again.

We will see tomorrow night in New Jersey.

Game Takes: Devils 4 Flames 3 (OT)

Another game, another painful start for the Calgary Flames on this eight game homestand which is now thankfully over.

The Flames come out lost defensively, lose Michael Stone off the hop, and spot the Devils a 3-1 lead on blown cover after blown cover after blown cover.

Better territorial play through the second and third got the game tied up before an overtime penalty to Elias Lindholm resulted in the Devil’s game winner and a Calgary skid hitting four games.

The Flames now get out on the road, with games Monday, Tuesday and Thursday on a quick three game trip.

Hope they bring a chalkboard.

Game Takes: Predators 4 Flames 1

No way to sugar coat it, the Flames are hurting right now.

A really solid game against Edmonton with a blow third period lead on some strange bounces, a game put away against Seattle before a complete collapse, but tonight they were never really in it.

Terrible first period.

Terrible start to the second period.

Not enough in the third to make up for the sins of the first 40 as they go down for the third straight game by a 4-1 score.

One more game on the homestand before they head out on the road for three games.

Thank God.

Game Takes: Kraken 5 Flames 4

The Flames are finding a way to lose hockey games.

They found a way against Carolina and Pittsburgh despite challenges, but although they outplayed the Oilers on Saturday night, and again tonight against Seattle, they surrendered leads and found a way to end up on the wrong side of the score board.

Tonight the Flames erased a 1-0 first period deficit to lead 2-1 in the second and then 4-2 in the third before giving up three straight goals late to lose a game that looked ready to be put on ice.

They’re leaning offensively, which leads to quality chances against and they don’t seem to have the early season goaltending to bail that out.

Back to the drawing board on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators.
