Game Takes: Flames 5 Panthers 4 (SO)

Wins matter.

With a team having lost eight of their last ten you need to start racking up two points a night, not one, and certainly not zero.

But some games are more important than others, and this one was certainly one of those with the three principals in the July 22nd trade facing off against their ex teammates for the first time.

It was also an important start for Jacob Markstrom, also an ex Panther, as he put the focus on his shoulders with his comments after his gaff in the third period in Tampa Bay on Thursday night.

All told a solid game, back and forth with an entertaining overtime, before the goalies stole the show in a 10 shot shoot out.

The Flames win 5-4 in the shoot out with Jonathan Huberdeau and Jacob Markstrom keeping it alive, Markstrom stopping Matthew Tkachuk on a slap shot; not his usual shoot out move.

Next up for the Flames is a date in Philly against the Flyers on Monday night. Game time 5pm.

Game Takes: Lightning 4 Flames 1

For the most part a solid road effort for the Flames.

They drove the play for the most part, but got leaned on when it came to high danger chances in a 4-1 loss to the always dangerous Tampa Bay Lightning.

Jacob Markstrom kept them in it through the first period, couldn’t be faulted for the Tampa second period goal, but hurt them in the third with a freebe.

The Flames move on to play Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

Game Takes: Flames 6 Kings 5

The Flames were due.

31st spot in PDO in the November was pretty much the story coming in for a team that has had the league’s toughest schedule, some key injuries and some very unsustainable poor numbers.

Tonight the flood gates opened up on one side of the ledger with the Flames scoring six goals on 29 shots; five of them five on five, but they still gave up five for a nightly PDO of 1.09.

Goals from six different players, and some slump busters for Jonathan Huberdeau and Andrew Mangiapane.

That gives the Flames two straight wins as they head out on the road for a six game road trip, starting in Tampa on Thursday night.

Game Takes: Flames 3 Jets 2

What a difference a Chris Tanev return makes.

Some key blocked shots and coolness behind the blueline made a huge difference in the Flames grinding 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

Jacob Markstrom stood on his head at times, and the Flames were excellent in shutting the Jets down in the third period to snap a nasty seven game losing streak and right things with the home ice win.

The Flames got goals from Elias Lindholm, Adam Ruzicka and Trevor Lewis.

Next up a home game with the LA Kings, before they head out East again for a road trip.

Game Takes: Bruins 3 Flames 1

November 10th, 2022 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

Well that’s seven in a row.

Hopefully this is shades of 1986 where the Calgary Flames lost 11 in a row but finished the season in the Stanley Cup Final against Montreal.

I guess we will see.

Tonight was pretty much the same for the Flames in all three of their starts on this trip; play well enough to win, but find a way to lose.

Calgary scored first, but trailed going into the third period but just couldn’t get it done.

Their next chance to snap the streak is against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night in Calgary.

Role the same game out that we saw in all three games on this trip and they win nine of ten times.

Trust the process right?
