Game Takes: Flames 5 Wild 3

Ten minutes into this hockey game and the Flames looked to be in deep, deep trouble.

The Wild were up 2-0 on two quick goals in the game’s first two minutes and the Flames were getting beaten to every loose puck, losing every puck battle, and looking slow and old compared to a charged up Minnesota Wild club.

Then they rectified things.

The latter half of the first not pretty, but better. The first three minutes of the second game changing as the Flames scored three quick goals to erase the deficit and go ahead 3-2.

The teams exchange third period goals before Calgary ices it with an empty netter.

Flames win the game 5-3 and take the homestand with a 3-1-0 record.

Next up Johnny Gaudreau and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. Buckle up.

That wasn’t pretty.

A terrible start followed by the Flames completely taking over the game only to fall asleep and let their visitors back in it. Luckily the Flames find the net on a late powerplay goal to eke out a 3-2 win and move their homestand to 3-1-0 with a single game left against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night.

The Flames have Dan Vladar to thank for a great start and great finish on a night where he only faced 20 shots on goal.

The Flames got three points from Nazem Kadri and two from Jonathan Huberdeau as the Flames top six seems to have come to life, resulting in wins.

What can you say?

The Flames completely dominated the hockey game, but couldn’t convert on the abundant stash of chances and with that fell to the Montreal Canadiens by a 2-1 score on Thursday night, despite out shooting and out chancing Montreal drastically.

The Sean Monahan home coming had a good result for the former Flame with two assists, including one just 13 seconds into the game. The Saddledome crowd gave Calgary’s #23 a 40 second standing ovation and didn’t boo the player once.

Next up the Flames host the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.

Game Takes: Flames 6 Panthers 2

November 29th, 2022 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

Emotional night at the Saddledome.

The Flames get up 3-0 in the first period, walk out a stinker in the second, but solidify things with a solid third period skating away with a 6-2 victory and a season sweep of Matthew Tkachuk’s Florida Panthers.

Speaking of Tkachuk, not the offensive night he had in Florida with no points and a -2 on the night, including a cross checking penalty.

The ex-Floridians were productive though, as Jonathan Huberdeau has a goal and an assist while Mackenzie Weegar adds a helper.

Dan Vladar solid for his second win of the season in his third start in the last four games.
