Game Takes: Flames 6 Stars 5

Well that was a finish.

The Flames were cruising on the road with a 6-1 second period lead on two point nights for all of Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Chris Tanev, Rasmus Andersson and Mackenzie Weegar when the wheels fell off.

The Stars scored a late second period goal, then three more in the third to make it a nail biting 6-5 victory for the Flames.

A win is a win though, and this one gives the team 6 out of a possible 8 points thus far on their mid continent road trip that takes them to Nashville on Monday night to rap things up.

It’s also points in five straight games and 11 of their last 13.

It isn’t pretty, nor was this game’s finish, but they continue to pick up points and put some space between themselves and the teams out of playoff spots.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Blues 1

Talk about flipping the script.

Two nights ago the Flames cruised into the third period with a 3-1 lead playing an almost perfect road game in the middle frame. They gave up basically four straight goals, with one waived for an offside in losing a 4-3 game in overtime in St. Louis.

Tonight they have a more perilous 1-0 lead into the third, cough that up on a tough bounce just 20 seconds into the third but then got up, dusted themselves off and took over in scoring three straight goals in turning away the very same St. Louis Blues 4-1 on Thursday night.

Dan Vladar was solid in the nets, Dillon Dube scored twice, and Walker Duehr scored his first NHL goal.

The win gives the Flames a 1-0-2 record and four of a possible six points on the trip.

Game Takes: Blues 4 Flames 3 (OT)

They just keeping finding a way.

Not like the Hartley Flames in 2015 where they found a way to pull off miracles out of nowhere.

This team finds a way to drop points, avoid positive streaks and remain on the bubble in the Western Conference standings as they dropped a 4-3 overtime game in St. Louis after building a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes.

So much inconsistency both in skaters and in the net with Markstrom tonight.

Just not getting it done.

They get a chance at revenge in just under two days as they play the Blues again on Thursday night.

Game Takes: Hawks 4 Flames 3 (OT)

Just not good enough.

The Flames badly outshot the tank driven Black Hawks, but gave up way too many ten bell chances and with that paid for a poor start with a 4-3 overtime loss in Chicago on Sunday night to start a five game road trip.

A terrible first 21 minutes had them down 3-1.

Sutter pulls Jacob Markstrom and the Flames did back into it, but can’t find the go ahead goal afterying tying it up.

Disappointing start to the trip as things don’t get any easier from here.

Game Takes: Flames 4 Islanders 1

Go figure.

For weeks the Flames have been running up shot volume and outplaying teams, but coming up short … usually due to a lack of finish.

So yeah on a night where the team wasn’t very sharp, were out shot, and didn’t generate a whole lot they put up four on the tired New York Islanders, winning the hockey game 4-1 and securing a big two points before heading out on a five game road trip.

The win allowed the Flames to once again leap frog the Oilers and into the first wild card spot.

Goals by Milan Lucic, Blake Coleman, Nikita Zadorov and Nazem Kadri in a game where their best player was their goaltender.

Next up Chicago on Sunday night.
