The Flames simply can’t lose in Seattle.

That’s now five visits to Climate Pledge Arena and five victories for the Calgary Flames, as they’ve been Seattle’s least favourite guest.

Tonight the Flames had an iffy first, but a rock solid second and third erasing a 2-1 Kraken lead and skating away with a well deserved 6-3 road victory.

The win snaps the Flames six game losing streak and leap frogs them over the Edmonton Oilers in the standings, who lost today to Nashville in Edmonton.

Martin Pospisil played his first NHL game, and just like Connor Zary on Wednesday night, scored his first NHL goal on his 3rd shift in the first period making the Flames the first team to have back to back first goal in first game players since New Jersey in 2001.

Better right?

The Flames brought forward a much better effort against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night. The results was the same … a loss, this time a 4-3 setback but they had moments of what looked like a cohesive five on five attack, and were probably the better team for the first ten and last 20 minutes of the hockey game.

But they lost.

So that’s six in a row and a 2-7-1 record to start the season and an even deeper hole to dig out of going forward.

Game Takes: Oilers 5 Flames 2

You can’t win a hockey game in the first ten minutes of a contest, but you certainly can lose one.

The Flames did exactly that on Sunday outdoors in Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, as they laid full and complete egg from the opening draw falling down 2-0 and effectively sealing their fate.

Turnover after turnover after turnover for the Flames, something we’ve seen far too often in this still young season. Calgary pushes back in the second and third and has it at a one goal game with 13 minutes to play but the damage was done.

That gives the Flames five straight losses after a decent 2-1-1 start to the season.

The hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper.

Game Takes: Blues 3 Flames 0

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the Calgary Flames.

When they lost to the Rangers on Tuesday night at least they had some solid stats to suggest they were perhaps heading towards getting out of their scoring funk.

Instead they take a step back if anything against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night, dropping a somewhat listless game and failing to get on the scoreboard in a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

That’s four straight losses for the Flames as they continue to dig a hole that will make securing a playoff spot very difficult, but moving free agents a little easier.

Game Takes: Rangers 3 Flames 1

October 24th, 2023 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

An interesting hockey game tonight with all the off ice sparks through the day, and a team coming home from a terrible end to their road trip.

Would they have that emotional lift and push back? Or wilt under the media spotlight on home ice?

For the most part they showed up. They scored the game’s first goal, had a lead after one, and a solid second period from a five on five standpoint. But in the end the Rangers powerplay did them in, scoring twice in the second and building a lead that the Flames couldn’t overcome.

Calgary gives it s solid effort in the third but can’t find the net and run out of time.
