Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames will be hosting their annual development camp for prospects beginning on Friday, June 6th. The purpose of the camp, which runs from June 6th through June 14th is to educate and direct players in their conditioning programs. Training sites for the camp include the University of Calgary athletic facilities, Bowmont Boxing Club, Father David Bauer Arena, SAIT Arena, Decaman Athletic Training Centre and the Pengrowth Saddledome.
The scheduled training regimen includes a cross-section of dry-land activities and work-outs; including on-ice skill development and off-ice testing, boxing, rock-climbing and strength/explosive power training. The players will also receive instruction on nutrition, training principles/optimization and sports psychology.
"The commitment to physical and mental conditioning is a philosophy that extends throughout the Flames organization," explains Flames Development Coach Jamie Hislop. "We want to give our young prospects a better understanding of the training required to meet the challenges of playing at the NHL level."
"Good training results in good physical conditioning. This benefits both the team and the individual by improving performance, increasing resistance to injury, decreasing rehabilitation time and contributing to the longevity of these players' careers," continued Hislop.
The camp will be conducted by Flames Development Coach Jamie Hislop along with Assistant Coaches Jim Playfair and Rob Cookson, Goaltending Coach Wendell Young, Pro Scout Ron Sutter and Strength and Conditioning Coach Rich Hesketh.
Attached is a complete itinerary for the camp with media availability noted. All on-ice sessions are open to the public.
