Calgarypuck.com Poll -
Final Cuts
October
10, 2001
On the eve of the final cuts of the preseason,
Calgarypuck.com readers were asked to pick the final five forwards
to make the club, from a list that included nine players.
The vote was very close.
First place vote getter Chris Clark made the
team, and has played a large role on the club's third line along
with Craig Conroy and Dave Lowry.
The second place finisher was Jukka Hentunen, a
27 year old Fin that was actually cut and has started the season in
Saint John. Hentunen led all AHL rookies with three points in two
weekend games, and will likely be recalled soon.
The third and fourth place finishers; Jeff
Cowan and Steve Begin, both made the team and play a fourth line
role with the team.
The fifth place finisher, Rico Fata was cut,
and was claimed on waivers by the New York Rangers.
First round pick Chuck Kobasew, who finished
sixth in the poll actually made the team but failed to come to terms
with the Flames on a contract.
Below are some of the comments made by poll
takers. ...
"Cowan better hope button has bought
someone a bus ticket to Kelowna"
"I would have picked Kobasew over Cowen,
but with all the comments and reports of Chuck going down, I think
Cowen will sneak in."
"Saprykin is going to SJ, Kobasew back to
Junior, Nichol and Wright to SJ"
