The Mavericks look to break a slump at home after losing yet again last night. They play back to back against the Allen Americans and after falling 3-2 yesterday, they are looking for some revenge and they get it with a solid 4-1 victory. Tyler Parsons gets the start in net.
No Change in Play
Dan Correale was out as suspected tonight with a lower body injury. Eric Freschi faced a suspension from the league and Kayle Doetzal got the call up from Stockton. So only dressing 14 skaters looked a little worrisome at first. The players and the coaches agreed they just had to play their game the way they know they can and not let the lack of bodies get to their head. They did a great job picking each other up tonight.
Coach John-Scott Dickson said post-game, “I feel like we’re always in the game. I didn’t go into today’s game thinking you know lets just hold on, maybe we can squeak a win out or maybe not lose by a certain amount of goals. That’s never the thought process I have anyway and we don’t want to transfer that over to the players.”
Unreal Performances
The four goals scored tonight were done by only two players. Mike McMurtry and Mark Cooper. McMurtry picking up the first two and Cooper with the second two. The first three goals were on the power play and Cooper picked up assists on each of McMurtry’s goals while McMurtry was able to get in on one of them. A four point night for Cooper and a 3 point night for McMurtry make these two the first two stars of the game. Mark Cooper shares a little more about his night here:

POWER play
The Kansas City Mavericks finally show some hope for their special teams tonight. Before this game they were only 3 for 33 on the power play at home. 3/4 goals scored tonight were on the power play and going 3/5 was a night the Mavericks desperately needed. Another unfortunate home stat is the fact that they can’t seem to win on their own ice. They were 3-7-0 going into this game so 4-7-0 is the step in the right direction.
The Kid Has Got Game
Tyler Parsons worked his tail off all game. There was even a point where he made a save with a body on top of him and was a little slow to get up favouring his right leg but it didn’t seem to bother him throughout the rest of the game. We dare not say the word shutout but he had one going until about halfway through the third. He gave up one goal on 24 shots when Patch Alber got called for holding and Allen, who was trialing 3-0 at the time opted for a an empty net and a 6-on-4 power play. It ended up paying off for them and Parsons gets beat on a rebound glove side. He picked up the 3rd star of the night and talks about how his team helped him tonight here:
