Flames Sign Jukka Hentunen D'Arcy McGrath May 31, 2001 The Calgary Flames inked a deal with Finnish winger Jukka Hentunen on Thursday. Hentunen was drafted in 2000, in the sixth round, 176th overall and went on to a banner year in the Finnish elite league. "Hentunen has been a solid contributor in the Finnish Elite League and at World Championship competitions," said Button. "With his maturity and the fact that he has had success in one of the top leagues in the world and at the World Championships, we are looking for Jukka to come to Calgary next season and challenge for a position on our roster." The 5'10" 194 lb. 27-year-old winger racked up 27 goals and 55 points for Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League, before representing Finland at the 2001 World Championships. His tenacious manner and offensive skills could see him play a prominent role in Calgary next season. The team is in need of top six forward depth, and Hentunen could factor into the picture by the time October rolls around. Hentunen's Stats
